Since 2006 Fred Allard has been the Creative Director of Nine West: one of the most well known Shoe stores internationally. Nine West is very successful still today and we sit for some Heel Talk with Fred Allard to find out how he does it.

MMS: How does it make you feel to know that today Nine West is still ranking one of the top footwear stores to shop shoes today?

Nine West: It’s amazing that Nine West is still one of the top footwear brands, it’s also very important to me that we maintain a global presence, our collections appeal to women everywhere!

MMS: How difficult is it to create fresh new designs every season?

Nine West: I love working with my team and incorporating the things that inspire us – we draw inspiration from everything around us from movies to music to vintage fashion.

MMS: Would you consider Nine West a shoe store that caters to your average woman?

Nine West: The Nine West customer ranges from the day-to-night career woman, to the fashionista that mixes labels and brands from high to low.

MMS: Besides designing a MeanShoe what role does Comfort play in your designs?

Nine West: The most important thing to consider when buying and wearing fashion is confidence and feeling good about what you’re wearing, so comfort is definitely a factor.

MMS: It seems many brands are working closing with other designers (Jimmy Choo for H&M)( PierreHardy for the Gap) who would you work with if given the chance?

Nine West: I would love to work with Lady Gaga and the Haus of Gaga, I’m loving her right now.

MMS: Are there anything new projects or collaborations we can expect in the near future?

Nine West: We’re always looking at different opportunities to take Nine West to the next level. The New Balance for Nine West collaboration is still really fun, and the Nine West Vintage America Collection will continue to evolve as well.

MMS: What’s your favorite type of shoe? Mine is a platform Pump!

Nine West:  I love platforms as well, the platform sandal is a must for Spring.

MMS: What advice can you offer aspiring and new upcoming shoe designers?

Nine West: Learn the technical aspect of designing shoes. It will help you in your career to explain your designs and you’ll be respected for knowing your subject.

MMS: Are there any intern opportunities offered at Nine West ? and where can you find out more information if interested?

Nine West: Our job opportunities are constantly updated on www.jonesapparel.com

MMS: Thank you so much for having some Heel Talk with us……Now That’s MEAN!
